What is the digital certificate?

The digital certificate (for an individual or for a legal entity's representative) is an electronic file that proves your identity, or your company's identity, online. It lets you sign documents and carry out online procedures with full legal validity.

It is issued by the FNMT-RCM (Spanish Royal Mint) and the official process is free of charge. What Gestoría Gala charges is our fee for managing the process: application, appointment, follow-up and installation.

⚠️ Mandatory for companies

Since 2016, legal entities (S.L., S.A., self-employed workers with employees…) are required to deal with public authorities electronically. Without a digital certificate it is not possible to carry out procedures with Social Security or the Tax Agency.

In-person identity verification

The holder (or the company's legal representative) must attend in person with their ID and the application code. This step is legally required to guarantee the certificate's security.

Download and installation

Once verified, we download and install the certificate and export it to PFX/P12 format for use on multiple platforms.

You are then set up to carry out procedures with Social Security, the Tax Agency, the Commercial Registry and any online government office.

Frequently asked questions

Does the holder absolutely have to attend in person?
Yes, in-person identity verification is legally required for certificates issued by the FNMT. No one else can do it on your behalf, although the rest of the process (application, download, installation) is handled entirely by Gestoría Gala.
What documents do I need to bring to the appointment?
The holder or legal representative must present their valid ID or NIE and the FNMT application code that Gestoría Gala will provide. There is no need to bring deeds or additional company documentation.
How long does the digital certificate last?
FNMT certificates are valid for 2 years for legal entities and 4 years for individuals. Gestoría Gala can remind you when renewal is coming up.
Can the certificate be installed on several computers?
Yes. The certificate can be exported in PFX/P12 format and installed on as many devices as you need. Gestoría Gala gives you the exported file and advises you on installation.
What is it specifically used for when registering employees?
To register and deregister employees with Social Security through the RED System, the company must have a digital certificate or RED authorisation. The digital certificate allows Gestoría Gala to act on the company's behalf for all these online procedures.
