Scooter and PMD registration
PMDs (Personal Mobility Devices) with a top speed between 6 and 25 km/h must be identified but do not need a DGT number plate. L1e-A vehicles (mopeds) that exceed 25 km/h or 1000W do require registration and compulsory insurance.
You will need your ID/NIE, the vehicle's technical data sheet or certificate of conformity, the purchase invoice or proof of acquisition, and the scooter's serial number/VIN.
Scooters classified as L1e-A (mopeds) that are registered do require passing the corresponding MOT before they can be driven on public roads.
Yes. For second-hand scooters you need the sale contract or a document proving the transfer, plus the technical documentation of the vehicle.
The process usually takes between 5 and 15 business days depending on the documentation and the relevant traffic office.
